Southern Railway to observe Vigilance Awareness Week

Southern Railway is observing Vigilance Awareness Week from 29th October to 3rd November 2018 as directed by the Central Vigilance Commission, New Delhi. This week is observed to coincide with the week in which the birthday (31st October) of Shri. Sardar Vallabhai Patel falls. The objective of the Vigilance Awareness Week is to bring about alertness amongst the public and government employees through participative and pro-active vigilance management, to bring down the menace of corruption to zero.

The theme for the current year’s Vigilance Awareness Week observance is Eradicate Corruption-Build a New India.

29th October, 2018(today)  being the first day of the year’s Vigilance Awareness Week, 'Integrity Pledge' was  administered to the Railway Employees by Shri R.K.Kulshrestha, General Manager, Southern Railway  at S Rly Headquarters .Shri.J.P.Pandey, Sr.Deputy General Manager & Chief Vigilance Officer, Principal Heads of Departments, officers and staff were present. 

 A special programme was organized by the Vigilance wing of Southern Railway today , 29th October, 2018 at Southern Railway Headquarters to mark the inauguration of Vigilance Awareness Week, 2018.  Shri.J.P.Pandey, Sr.Deputy General Manager & Chief Vigilance Officer in his welcome address reinstated that a foolproof system for scaning the performance of employees should be devised in order to strengthen vigilance and minimise opportunities leading to corrupt practices. 

Shri.V.Ramachandran, Retd. Director General, RDSO graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his keynote address, he  shared valuable lessons o­n vigilance awareness through  case studies  to motivate the audience  .  Speaking of his stint at Central Vigilance Commission, he remarked that greater transparency and accountability among the employees  will address serious corruption-related issues.  He reiterated that positive improvement the arena of Vigilance & Anti-corruption can be achieved o­nly with the active and committed involvement of staff.

Shri.R.K.Kulshrestha, General Manager, Southern Railway while addressing the gathering stated that Southern Railway has been a frontrunner in conducting flagship programmes such as ‘Sathyanishtha’ to inculcate the spirit of integrity. He reiterated that such awareness campaigns will be useful in enhancing transparency and efficiency in the working of the organisation. 

During the programme, Vigilance Bulletin-2018 was released by Shri.R.K.Kulshrestha, General Manager, Southern Railway along with Shri.V.Ramachandran, Chief Guest, Shri.P.K.Mishra, Addl General Manager and Shri.J.P.Pandey, Sr.Deputy General Manager & Chief Vigilance Officer.

The Vigilance wing of Southern Railway will organize programmes during the week to cover Zonal Headquarters, Divisions, major Workshops and field units to create awareness against corruption /malpractices and to bring about systemic improvement through use of technology.

Programmes such as Quiz Contests, Skits, Presentation of case studies and Panel discussions will also be organized throughout the week at Headquarters and Divisional offices of Southern Railway.  A special drive will be undertaken to generate public and staff awareness against corruption through personal counselling by Vigilance Officials at important locations of public and staff   interface such as railway stations.
